How to check your EBT balance
You do not need an app or an account. The fastest way works in every state, 24 hours a day.
Three ways, fastest first
- Call the number on the back of your card. Every state prints a free 24-hour balance line there. You will need your card number, and usually your PIN. This works even if you have no internet.
- Check your last store receipt. Most SNAP retailers print your remaining balance at the bottom of the receipt after a purchase.
- Use your state’s portal or app. Every state has one; they are all different. Pick your state below for the right link.
Never pay to check a balance. Checking is always free through the number on your card or your state portal. Any site or app charging a fee for this is not your state agency. Do not give your card number or PIN to anyone who calls or texts you — state agencies do not ask for your PIN.
If your balance is lower than you expected
- Benefits are staggered — your deposit date depends on your case number, Social Security number or last name, depending on the state. See SNAP deposit dates.
- Card skimming is real. If money is missing that you did not spend, call your state agency immediately — replacement rules vary and some states restore stolen benefits.
