Donor-advised fund grants
- In the sponsor’s grant system, search for Feed America and pick the listing with Tax ID 92-1761881.
- Enter the grant amount. Add a purpose such as “general support” if the client wants one, or leave it blank for unrestricted use.
- If the sponsor lets the client share their name, include it so we can thank them.
- Grant checks are mailed to Feed America, 13100 Wortham Center Dr, FL 3RD-1047, Houston, TX 77065. For ACH or wire, see wire and ACH gifts.
Most sponsors process grants in 5–10 business days. Sponsor-by-sponsor steps: DAF gifts and finding Feed America in a giving platform.
Year-end 2026 DAF timing
Each sponsor sets its own cutoff for grants to go out by December 31, 2026 (published dates, checked October 21, 2026):
- DAFgiving360 (formerly Schwab Charitable): submit grant recommendations by December 1.
- Vanguard Charitable: enter grant recommendations by December 7.
- National Philanthropic Trust: enter grants by 11:59 pm ET on December 16.
- Fidelity Charitable: grants may take 10 or more business days; allow at least that.
Confirm with your sponsor; community foundations and other sponsors set their own dates.
IRA qualified charitable distributions (QCDs)
IRA owners age 70½ or older can direct a QCD to Feed America, a 501(c)(3) public charity. A QCD can count toward the year’s required minimum distribution and is excluded from taxable income, up to $111,000 in 2026 (the IRS indexes the limit each year). The distribution must leave the IRA by December 31 to count for 2026. A QCD cannot go to a donor-advised fund.
- Ask the IRA custodian for a qualified charitable distribution payable to Feed America.
- Have the check mailed to Feed America, 13100 Wortham Center Dr, FL 3RD-1047, Houston, TX 77065, or sent to the client to forward. Give Tax ID 92-1761881 if the custodian’s form asks for it.
- Custodian checks often arrive without the donor’s name. Email info@feedam.org with the client’s name, mailing address, amount and custodian so the acknowledgment reaches the client.

Appreciated stock
Two routes, as set out on the stock gifts page:
- Through a donor-advised fund (simplest): the client contributes the shares to their DAF, then recommends a grant to Feed America. The sponsor handles the transfer and the sale.
- Direct broker-to-broker (DTC) transfer: email info@feedam.org with the subject “Stock gift transfer instructions” and we reply with the transfer instructions. Include the client’s name, the security and the share count so the gift can be matched and acknowledged.
For year-end gifts, start the transfer by early December: a stock gift counts when the shares arrive in Feed America’s account, and DTC transfers take several business days.
Client checks
Make checks payable to Feed America, write Tax ID 92-1761881 and the donor’s name on the memo line, and mail them to Feed America, 13100 Wortham Center Dr, FL 3RD-1047, Houston, TX 77065. To speed up the acknowledgment, tell us a check is on the way. For a check designated to a state program, see the state payee lines.
Returned, voided or reissued checks
If a DAF sponsor or IRA custodian check to Feed America is returned, needs to be voided or has to be reissued, email info@feedam.org with the sponsor or custodian name, the check number, the amount and the issue date. Some sponsors reissue a grant only at the donor’s request, so include the donor’s name if you can.
Gift acknowledgments
A written acknowledgment letter goes out within 10 business days of deposit, to the name and mailing address that come with the gift; add an email address for an electronic copy. Questions about a gift, a receipt or documentation: info@feedam.org.
