Look at your last receipt

Most stores that accept SNAP print your remaining balance at the bottom of the receipt. No phone or internet needed.

Lock your card between shopping trips. Freeze/unfreeze in the Your Texas Benefits app or via the Lone Star Help Desk Card skimming is the most common way benefits are stolen, and since December 2024 the federal government no longer replaces stolen SNAP benefits in most cases.

If benefits were stolen

HHSC will not replace benefits used before the card is reported lost or stolen. HHSC OIG: SNAP stolen by EBT card skimming on or after Dec. 21, 2024 cannot be replaced - federal funding is gone.

If your card is lost, stolen or damaged

Freeze the card or request a new one in the Your Texas Benefits app or call 800-777-7328; no fee stated. HHSC says the replacement arrives in about seven days; PIN and balance transfer to it.

When your next deposit lands

Texas loads benefits on days 1-28 of each month, based on the last two digits of your SNAP EDG (Eligibility Determination Group) number. A balance lower than you expected usually means your day has not come round yet. See the Texas deposit schedule.

Checking your balance is always free. Any site or app charging a fee for it is not your state agency. State agencies never call or text asking for your card number or PIN — if someone does, it is a scam.
