Most stores that accept SNAP print your remaining balance at the bottom of the receipt. No phone or internet needed.

Lock your card between shopping trips. Block internet and out-of-state transactions in the ebtEDGE portal or app Card skimming is the most common way benefits are stolen, and since December 2024 the federal government no longer replaces stolen SNAP benefits in most cases.

If benefits were stolen

Stolen SNAP benefits are not replaced: WV's stolen-SNAP replacement program ended Dec. 20, 2024, and the skimming/cloning/phishing policy was removed 4/1/26. WV WORKS cash theft is still replaceable.

Call 1-866-545-6502 (24/7) to report lost/stolen/damaged; the card is deactivated immediately and a replacement arrives in 7-10 business days. No fee stated; your PIN carries over.

When your next deposit lands

West Virginia loads benefits on the 1st through the 9th of each month, based on the first letter of the payee's last name. A balance lower than you expected usually means your day has not come round yet. See the West Virginia deposit schedule.

Checking your balance is always free. Any site or app charging a fee for it is not your state agency. State agencies never call or text asking for your card number or PIN — if someone does, it is a scam.
