D.C. WIC uses the federal 185% poverty-level income test. Higher threshold than SNAP. Pregnant women, postpartum women, infants under 1, and kids 1-5 qualify. Administered by D.C. WIC State Agency.

For households over 8: add $830/month per additional member. Limits update each January per HHS Federal Poverty Guidelines.

Auto-eligible (no income test): If anyone in your household receives SNAP, Medicaid, or TANF — you automatically qualify for D.C. WIC regardless of income. Apply directly without verifying income.

Who qualifies for D.C. WIC

Pregnant women — through pregnancy + 6 weeks postpartum (or 1 year if breastfeeding)
Postpartum women — up to 6 months (non-breastfeeding)
Breastfeeding women — up to 1 year postpartum
Infants under 1 — formula, baby food, cereals
Children 1-5 — fruits, vegetables, milk, eggs, beans, whole grains, peanut butter, yogurt

What if I'm slightly over the income limit?

D.C. WIC uses 185% FPL strict — higher than SNAP. If you're over the income limit, also check Medicaid eligibility (often 200% FPL) — Medicaid recipients are auto-eligible for WIC.

Can I get formula through D.C. WIC?

Yes. D.C. WIC is the largest source of free baby formula in the US. Specific approved formula brands per state (mostly Similac and Enfamil). For special-needs/hypoallergenic formulas, doctor's prescription required.

How fast is the application?

D.C. WIC typically issues benefits at the initial appointment (~1 hour). Walk away with a check or eWIC card the same day.

Are immigrants eligible?

WIC has no immigration status requirement at the federal level — your immigration status does not affect WIC eligibility. WIC is not considered a "public charge" benefit and does not affect immigration cases.
