IHS facilities serve American Indians and Alaska Natives (AI/AN) who are members or descendants of federally-recognized tribes. Services include primary care, behavioral health, dental, pharmacy, vision, and emergency care. Most services are free or low-cost. Urban Indian Health Programs serve AI/AN people living in urban areas off-reservation. Tribally-operated (638 / Self-Governance) facilities are owned by tribes who contract with IHS.
