Thanksgiving 2026 is Thursday November 26. This page lists EVERY free resource available — turkey baskets, hot meals at restaurants / churches / community centers, pantries with holiday boxes, school programs, and more. Some program applications close November 15 — act early.
TIMING: Apply for turkey baskets Nov 1-15. Pantries distribute Nov 18-25. Hot meals are Nov 26.
1. Turkey baskets / holiday boxes
- Salvation Army — salvationarmyusa.org/locator. Distributes turkey + sides packages. Apply at local office in November. No cost.
- Catholic Charities — catholiccharitiesusa.org. Network of >1,500 offices. Standard holiday boxes.
- Regional food banks — distribute turkeys + sides each November. Check with your regional bank.
- Operation Turkey — operationturkey.com. Volunteers deliver meals to homeless and isolated (Austin, Atlanta, Houston, other cities).
- Local churches — most churches distribute turkeys with no verification. Call in November.
- 211 — priority routing for holiday programs. Dial early.
2. Hot meals on November 26
Hundreds of restaurants, churches, and community centers serve free Thanksgiving meals. No income verification at most.
- Restaurants traditionally free — Bob Evans (sit-down), Cracker Barrel (some), Boston Market (varies). Verify ahead — varies by location.
- Mission of Faith — meals in low-income zones
- Local churches — most run community meals. Use 211 to locate.
- Salvation Army Centers — nearly all serve free meal Nov 26

3. SNAP boost in November
- In November of new fiscal year (Oct 1, 2025), SNAP benefits were inflation-adjusted. FY26 max amounts: $292 (1) → $975 (4) +$176/each

6. Days after — leftovers + Black Friday
- Black Friday pantries — some extend hours Nov 27
- Redistribution programs — restaurants / hotels donate leftovers to pantries — "after Thanksgiving" week sees inventory boost
- Discount post-holiday shopping — turkeys, sides, holiday products at 50-75% discount. Use EBT.
7. If you have excess — donate
