What Can I Buy With SNAP / EBT? — Complete List 2026
SNAP covers foods to take home and seeds to grow food. Does NOT cover hot prepared foods, alcohol, tobacco, supplements, or non-food items.
✅ Eligible foods (what you CAN buy)
- Fruits and vegetables — fresh, frozen, canned, dried
- Meat, poultry, fish — includes deli meats + live shellfish
- Dairy — milk, cheese, yogurt, butter, eggs
- Bread and cereals — including rice, pasta, tortillas
- Other foods — snack foods, non-alcoholic beverages, spices, condiments
- Seeds and plants — that produce food for the household (home garden)
- Baby food — infant formula, baby food
❌ Ineligible (what you CANNOT buy)
- Alcoholic beverages — beer, wine, liquor
- Tobacco products
- Vitamins, medicines, supplements — any item with "Supplement Facts" label
- Hot prepared foods — hot rotisserie chicken, hot pizza, etc. (exception: certain restaurants in approved state programs)
- Foods to be eaten in the store
- Non-food items — cleaning supplies, hygiene products, toilet paper, pet food
Restaurant Meals Program (RMP)
Some states allow seniors (60+), disabled, or homeless individuals to use SNAP at participating restaurants (typically low-cost fast-food). States with active RMP: AZ, CA, IL, MD, MA, MI, NY, RI, VA. Check with your state SNAP agency.
Online SNAP purchasing
Since 2020, SNAP is accepted for online grocery purchases at many retailers: Amazon (all states), Walmart, Aldi, Target, Walgreens, ShopRite, BJ\u0027s Wholesale, Hy-Vee, Schnucks, Wegmans, etc. SNAP benefits cover eligible foods; you pay separately for delivery fees + tips + service fees (not SNAP-eligible).
Where can I use my SNAP / EBT card?
Any SNAP-authorized retailer. This includes:
- Major supermarkets (Kroger, Safeway, Albertsons, Publix, etc.)
- Convenience stores (7-Eleven, Walgreens, CVS — where eligible)
- Discount stores (Aldi, Save A Lot, Family Dollar, Dollar General)
- Farmers markets (FMNP-authorized)
- Some pharmacies (with grocery sections)
