How Much SNAP / Food Stamps Will I Get in 2026?

The formula is: maximum benefit (by household size) minus 30% of your net income. Most households receive less than the max because they have some income. Households with no income receive the full max.

The formula

Monthly SNAP benefit = Max benefit − (0.30 × Net income)

Minimum: $23/mo for 1-2 person households. Benefit can never be zero if household is eligible.

Worked examples

Example 1: Single mom, 2 kids, $1,800/mo

Household of 3, max benefit $776

Gross income $1,800. Deductions: 20% earned ($360) + standard ($198) = $558

Net income: $1,800 − $558 = $1,242

30% × $1,242 = $373

Estimated SNAP benefit: $776 − $373 = $403/mo

Example 2: Single adult, no income

Household of 1, max benefit $295

Income $0. No deductions apply.

Estimated SNAP benefit: $295/mo (full max)

Example 3: Senior 65, $1,400/mo Social Security, $400 rent

Household of 1, max benefit $295

Income $1,400 (unearned income, no 20% deduction). Standard ($198). If medical expenses ≥$35, medical deduction too.

No medical: net income $1,202. 30% = $361.

Estimated SNAP benefit: approximately $0-$50/mo (near minimum $23)
