Cryptocurrency donations
Donate BTC, ETH, USDC, or 70+ other cryptocurrencies to Feed America. For long-held appreciated crypto, you avoid capital-gains tax AND deduct the full fair market value — same advantage as donating stock.
Why crypto gifts are tax-efficient
Suppose you bought $1,000 of ETH that's now worth $10,000 (held >1 year). Two paths:
- Sell, donate cash — Owe long-term capital-gains tax on $9,000 gain (15-23.8% federal). After tax, ~$8,000 to donate. Charity gets $8,000.
- Donate ETH directly — Charity gets $10,000 (no capital-gains tax). You deduct $10,000.
Same after-tax cost to you. Charity gets ~$2,000 more. You deduct ~$2,000 more. Strictly better unless you specifically need the cash.
